‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ will live on after its Broadway closing on Jan. 6.
The production announced Thursday that it will transfer to New World Stages, where it will begin an off-Broadway running starting on Feb. 11, with an opening night on Feb. 20. The news comes after the play originally announced it would be closing in August, but then announced that it would stay open until January.
The off-Broadway production will be directed by new director Matt DiCarlo, taking over from Mark Bell. The play is written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields.
Cast and creative team will be announced at a later date.
The play recouped its $4 million capitalization in August, after 17 months of running on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre.
The show is produced by Kenny Wax and Kevin McCollum, who is also a producer of “Avenue Q,” which will be vacating New World Stages in April, after charting a similar course and transferring from Broadway to off-Broadway for a total run of 15 years. “Jersey Boys” and “Peter and the Starcatcher,” among others, also followed the Broadway to off-Broadway model at New World Stages.
