Nominees have been announced for the 34th annual GLAAD Media Awards, which highlight LGBTQ representation on stage, screen, film and beyond. “RuPaul’s Drag Race” stars Salina EsTitties and Sasha Colby revealed the nominees via GLAAD’s YouTube channel in a video released on Jan. 18.

This year’s contenders in the Outstanding Broadway Production category are “& Juliet,” “Ain’t No Mo’,” “Kimberly Akimbo,” “A Strange Loop” and “Take Me Out.” GLAAD noted in a release that all five productions not only excel in representation of LGBTQ characters but “prominently feature” LGBTQ characters of color.

In addition, “Mean Girls” alum Renee Rapp received a nomination in the Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist category.

GLAAD is a queer media advocacy organization. The 2023 GLAAD Media Awards will be held in Los Angeles on March 30 with a second ceremony held in New York City on May 13. Nominees are selected according to four criteria: fair, accurate and inclusive representations; boldness and originality; impact; and overall quality. The awards help fund GLAAD’s work to advance LGBTQ acceptance.
