Kathy Sova and Erin Salvi have been appointed co-publishers of the Theatre Communications Group’s TCG Books program, an independent trade publisher of dramatic literature.

Sova and Salvi will work together to preside over the editorial selection process. Sova, who has been with TCG for 28 years, will be responsible for editorial decisions, book design, author relations and contracting. Salvi, who joined the organization in 2015, will supervise the finances and title distribution of TCG Books. Together, the two will also oversee TCG’s One Million Books Campaign, which aims to make one million TCG plays available to schools, university and public libraries, community centers and independent bookstores, among other avenues.

The duo will work with Terry Nemeth, the outgoing publisher, through January. Nemeth, who announced his retirement in May 2022, will stay on as publisher emeritus.

TCG Books has a catalog that contains close to 500 titles, including 19 Pulitzer Prize-winning plays. Notable Broadway authors include Quiara Alegría Hudes, David Henry Hwang, Tony Kushner, Lynn Nottage, Suzan-Lori Parks, Sarah Ruhl, Heidi Schreck, Stephen Sondheim, Paula Vogel and August Wilson.

According to its website, TCG was established in 1961 to “improve communication among professional, community and university theaters in the United States.” It is now a network of over 500 member theaters and over 250 university, funder, trustee and business affiliates led by executive director and CEO Teresa Eyring.

“Through this shared leadership model, the unique strengths and experiences that Erin and Kathy each bring to the work will build on Terry Nemeth’s extraordinary legacy,” Eyring said in a statement. “TCG Books has always believed that plays are literature and worthy of the same resources, respect, and critical attention as any other literary form. Under Kathy and Erin’s shared leadership, that legacy will surely grow to new heights.”
