With four fewer shows running, Broadway grosses dipped last week.
For the week ending June 5, there were 31 shows running that grossed $29,555,352 and played to nearly 81% capacity. Grosses are down 11% compared to the previous week, while capacity was only down about 3%.
No shows played to 100% capacity, though “Hamilton” and “The Music Man” came close, sitting at 99%.
Six shows played to less than 60% capacity, including “Girl From The North Country,” “Hangmen,” “Paradise Square,” “POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive,” “The Minutes” and “Tina.”
“Mr. Saturday Night” was on a planned hiatus and did not have any performances.
“for colored girls who have considered suicide / when the rainbow is enuf” concluded its Broadway run on June 5. The show had its second best week financially, grossing $300,666.34, and played to 70% capacity – both figures up nearly 33% and 35% respectively compared to the previous week.
“How I Learned to Drive” canceled its matinee on June 4, citing a non-COVID-related illness within the company. The show, in its penultimate week after announcing an extension through June 12, grossed $160,548.00 over seven performances, playing to 75% capacity. This is the first time since April that the show has played to less than 80% capacity.
“Tina,” which announced on June 7 that it will close in August, grossed $747,930.50 and played to about 54% capacity, both figures down 17% and 18% respectively compared to last week.
“Dear Evan Hansen” also announced on June 7 that it will play its final performance this September. The show grossed $508,454.95 and played to nearly 70% capacity, both figures down 13% and 12% respectively from the previous week.
