New play “POTUS” has moved up its Broadway opening and will now be eligible for this season’s Tony Awards.

The Selina Fillinger play will now open at a matinee performance on April 27, 2022, one day before the Tony Awards eligibility cut-off, and will invite Tony voters, according to the production. The play was previously scheduled to open on May 9.

The play is still scheduled to begin its first preview on April 14 at the Shubert Theatre.

With the changed opening date, there are now 17 productions set to open over the next few weeks. The opening of “POTUS” is scheduled on the same day as new musical “Mr. Saturday Night,” which is expected to open that evening.

As a new play “POTUS” could now be in contention with titles such as “The Lehman Trilogy,” “Skeleton Crew,” “Clyde’s” “Dana H.,” “Is This A Room” and more.

Directed by Susan Stroman, “POTUS” features a cast including Lilli Cooper, Lea DeLaria, Rachel Dratch, Julianne Hough, Suzy Nakamura, Julie White and Vanessa Williams. The play will hold a special gala celebration on May 1.

“POTUS” is produced by Seaview, Lynette Howell Taylor, Glass Half Full Productions and Level Forward.

“After watching these hilarious and brilliant women of ‘POTUS’ light up the rehearsal room, we’ve made the decision to move our opening up to April 27 so that this extraordinary world premiere will be in front of audiences and critics this season,” the producers said in a statement.
