The musical adaptation of “Some Like It Hot” is holding a developmental work session this month, in lieu of an out-of-town tryout, the production said Tuesday.
The musical, which features a book by Matthew López & Amber Ruffin, music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman, is aiming for a Broadway run in fall 2022. The developmental work session began this week.
In the work session, Adrianna Hicks (“Six”) is taking on the role of Sugar, portrayed by Marilyn Monroe on screen. Christian Borle (“Falsettos”) and J. Harrison Ghee (“Mrs. Doubtfire”) lead the cast as Joe/Josephine and Jerry/Daphne, respectively. The principal cast also includes Kevin Del Aguila (“Frozen”), Adam Heller (“It Shoulda Been You”), Mark Lotito (“Fiddler on the Roof”) and NaTasha Yvette Williams (“Chicken and Biscuits”).
Casey Nicholaw is the director and choreographer for the production.
The adaptation is produced by the Shubert Organization and Neil Meron and co-produced by Roy Furman, Robert Greenblatt, the Nederlander Organization and Kenny Leon.
The ensemble for the developmental session includes Tia Altinay, Esther Antoine, Ian Campayno, Jacob Dickey, Casey Garvin, Devon Hadsell, Ashley Elizabeth Hale, Jenny Hill, Jarvis B. Manning, Jr., Brian Martin, Abby Matsusaka, Amber Owens, Destinee Rea, Tyler Roberts, Angie Schworer, Charles South, Brendon Stimson, Anthony Wayne, Raena White and Richard Riaz Yoder.
