Lincoln Center Theater is setting a fall 2021 reopening date for the new Broadway musical “Flying Over Sunset.”

The theater had intended to reopen “Flying Over Sunset” in spring 2021, but now says it “hopes” to reopen it in the fall, due to the closure of theaters through at least May 30, 2021. This is the third production to push its date past the current shutdown date, following “MJ” and “The Music Man.”

Lincoln Center Theater has also pushed the opera “Intimate Apparel,” which features music by Ricky Ian Gordon and libretto by Lynn Nottage, to fall 2021.

“Flying Over Sunset,” which features a book and direction by James Lapine, music by Tom Kitt and lyrics by Michael Korie, was originally scheduled to begin previews on March 12, 2020 and open on April 16.

Lincoln Center Theater said it plans to produce additional productions at its Broadway house, the Vivian Beaumont Theater, as well as its Off-Broadway Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater in spring 2022. It has also lined up LCT3 productions for the 2021-2022 season.
