Ephraim Sykes to play Michael Jackson in the Broadway musical

Ephraim Sykes will play Michael Jackson in the upcoming “MJ” musical on Broadway. Sykes is currently playing David Ruffin in “Ain’t Too Proud” on Broadway, for which he received a Tony nomination. He previously appeared on Broadway in “Hamilton,” “Memphis” and “Newsies,” among others.

Ephraim Sykes will play Michael Jackson in the upcoming “MJ” musical on Broadway.

Sykes is currently playing David Ruffin in “Ain’t Too Proud” on Broadway, for which he received a Tony nomination. He previously appeared on Broadway in “Hamilton,” “Memphis” and “Newsies,” among others.

In addition to his Broadway credits, Sykes toured with the Ailey II company for two years after graduating from the Alvin Ailey/Fordham University B.F.A. program.

“Ephraim Sykes is a bonafide triple threat, and dynamic rising star on Broadway. I am honored to be working with him on this exciting new production,” director Christopher Wheeldon said in the press release.

“MJ” begins previews at the Neil Simon Theatre on July 6, 2020, with an opening night on Aug. 13.
