Initial casting has been revealed for Second Stage Theater’s Broadway mounting of “Cult of Love.” The previously announced play by Leslye Headland will begin previews on Nov. 20 and open on Dec. 12 at the Hayes Theater. The Trip Cullman-directed production is currently slated to play a limited engagement through Feb. 2, 2025.

The cast will include Zachary Quinto, Shailene Woodley, Molly Bernard, Roberta Colindrez, Barbie Ferreira, Rebecca Henderson, Christopher Lowell and Christopher Sears. Two additional company members will be announced. Casting is by Jim Carnahan and Liz Fraser.

Quinto most recently appeared on the Main Stem in the 2018 revival of “The Boys in the Band.” Other theater credits include the 2010 Off-Broadway mounting of “Angels in America” and the 2013 Broadway revival of “The Glass Menagerie.” On television, he is known for his performances in “Heroes,” “Star Trek” and “American Horror Story: Asylum,” the latter of which earned Quinto an Emmy Award nomination.

Colindrez’s New York stage credits include appearances in the Off-Broadway and Main Stem productions of “Fun Home,” as well as “Hamlet” at the Public Theater and “Mala Hierba” at Second Stage.

“Cult of Love” will mark the Broadway debuts of Woodley, Bernard, Ferreira, Henderson, Lowell and Sears. Woodley received Golden Globe Award nominations for her turns in the film “Descendants” and the television series “Big Little Lies;” her performance in the latter garnered an Emmy nod. Ferreira played Kat on the HBO series “Euphoria” and will appear in the upcoming film “House of Spoils. Henderson shares an Outstanding Ensemble Performance Drama Desk Award for the Off-Broadway production of “The Wayside Motor Inn” and also appeared in “Moscow Moscow Moscow Moscow Moscow Moscow.” Bernard, Lowell and Sears all appeared in the 2024 Berkeley Repertory Theater production of “Cult of Love.”

In “Cult of Love,” the Dahl family’s four adult children return home for Christmas along with partners. The Dahls’ joyous holiday traditions are challenged by conflict as the family grapples with what can bind them together and tear them apart.

Also newly announced is the production’s complete creative team, which will include Tony Award-winning scenic designer John Lee Beatty, Tony-nominated costume designer Sophia Choi, Tony-nominated lighting designer Heather Gilbert and Tony-winning sound designer Darron L West. Jacinth Greywoode will serve as the production’s music supervisor.

“Cult of Love” is being produced by Second Stage Theater under the leadership of interim artistic director Bennett Leak and executive director Lisa Lawer Post.
