Nominations for the 2025 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards were revealed on Jan. 8. The awards, presented by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) recognize achievement in film and television. Broadway was well represented among the slate of nominees.

The motion picture adaptation of the Broadway musical “Wicked” earned five nominations, tying with a handful of other films as the most nominated in the 30-year history of the awards. “Wicked” headliners Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey were nominated as Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role and Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role, respectively. The film’s entire company was acknowledged in the category of Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. “Wicked”’s fifth nomination was awarded in the Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture category. Past films to have earned five nods include two other stage-to-screen adaptations — 2002’s “Chicago” and 2008’s “Doubt” — as well as 1998’s “Shakespeare in Love,” 2022’s “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

Beyond Erivo and Grande, Broadway veterans were named in all ten acting categories. For film, the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role category includes Ralph Fiennes for “Conclave”, Colman Domingo for “Sing Sing” and Daniel Craig for “Queer.” Fiennes in a Tony Award winner for the 1995 revival of “Hamlet,” Domingo has been nominated twice for his featured turn in 2010’s “The Scottsboro Boys” and as a co-producer on 2023’s “Fat Ham,” while Craig most recently appeared on the Main Stem as the titular role in “Macbeth.”

“Chicago” alum Pamela Anderson was nominated alongside Erivo for her performance in “The Last Showgirl,” while Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong were nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role category for their turns in “A Real Pain” and “The Apprentice,” respectively. Culkin is slated to appear in the upcoming revival of “Glengarry Glen Ross” and Strong took home a 2024 Tony for his leading performance in the recent revival of “An Enemy of the People.”

Television-wise, the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series category includes a trio of past Tony nominees: Cristin Milioti for “The Penguin,” Cate Blanchett for “Disclaimer” and Kathy Bates for “The Great Lillian Hall.” Bates was also nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series category for her work on “Matlock.” Bates, the only performer to be nominated twice this year, is joined in this category by Tony nominee Allison Janney and Keri Russell (both for “The Diplomat).

Other notable Main Stem alums cited include three-time Tony winner Kevin Kline (nominated as Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series for “Disclaimer”), Tony winner Eddie Redmayne (nominated as Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series for “The Day of the Jackal”) and Tony nominee Jean Smart (nominated as Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for “Hacks”).

Kristen Bell, who made her Broadway debut in 2001’s “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and is nominated alongside Smart for her turn in “Nobody Wants This,” will serve as host for the SAG Awards ceremony, which will take place on Feb. 23 at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles. The ceremony will stream live on Netflix at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
