Several new and returning faces are set to join the Broadway company of “Wicked” in the coming weeks.
Mary Kate Morrissey, who played the role of Elphaba on tour, will make her Broadway debut when she joins the company as the Elphaba standby beginning Feb. 14. She will take over for Alyssa Fox, who will assume the role full-time beginning March 7.
Also on March 7, John Dossett, Kimber Elayne Sprawl and William Youmans will join the cast as The Wizard, Nessarose and Dr. Dillamond, respectively. They will succeed outgoing cast members Cleavant Derricks, Mikayla Renfrow and Clifton Davis, who will play their final performance at the Gershwin Theatre on March 5.
They join a company that will include Fox as Elphaba, McKenzie Kurtz as Glinda, Michele Pawk as Madame Morrible, James D. Gish as Fiyero and Michael Wartella as Boq. Casting is by The Telsey Office.
Dossett was last seen on Broadway in “Paradise Square.” Select Broadway credits include “War Paint,” “Newsies,” “Pippin,” “The Constant Wife,” “Ragtime” and the 2003 revival of “Gypsy,” for which he received a Tony Award nomination. Sprawl last appeared on the Main Stem in “Girl From The North Country.” Her other credits include “A Bronx Tale The Musical” and “Beautiful The Carole King Musical.”
Youmans will return to the production having originated the role of Dr. Dillamond. Select Broadway credits include “To Kill a Mockingbird,” the 2018 revival of “Carousel,” “Bright Star,” “Hands on a Hardbody” and the 2009 revival of “Finian’s Rainbow.”
