‘White Lotus’ star Michael Imperioli will join Jeremy Strong in ‘An Enemy of the People’

Plus, a Broadway theater, opening night date and additional producer have been announced.

Michael Imperioli will make his Broadway debut in Henrik Ibsen’s “An Enemy of the People". The previously announced revival has also revealed production dates and a venue. The play will begin previews Feb. 27, 2024, at Broadway’s Circle in the Square Theatre. Directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold, the 16-week limited engagement will open on March 18 and is scheduled to close June 16. 

Imperioli will take on the role of Peter Stockmann opposite the previously announced Jeremy Strong as his brother, Doctor Thomas Stockmann.

Imperioli is a 2023 Emmy Award nominee for his turn as Dominic Di Grasso in the second season of the HBO series “The White Lotus.” Previously, he received five Emmy Award nominations for his work as Christopher Moltisanti on “The Sopranos,” winning the trophy in 2004. 

Amy Herzog, a 2023 Tony Award nominee for her version of another Ibsen classic, “A Doll’s House,” will write a new adaptation of “An Enemy of the People.”

Ibsen’s drama is set at a popular new spa in a small Norwegian town. When Doctor Thomas Stockmann discovers the spa’s waters are actually contaminated, he hopes to report the news. However, those in power attempt to silence his revelation. Stockmann is disturbed to find the charge is led by the town’s mayor, who is none other than his brother, Peter.

The play will feature scenic design by dots, costume design by two-time Tony Award winner David Zinn, lighting design by Isabella Byrd and sound design by Tony Award nominee Mikaal Sulaiman. Rachel Bauder is the production stage manager, and Juniper Street Productions will provide technical supervision. 101 Productions, Ltd will serve as general manager. 

Complete casting, by Taylor Williams Casting, will be announced at a later date.

Additionally Plan B, has been newly announced as part of the lead producing team. Headed by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, “An Enemy of the People” marks the first Broadway show for the established film and television production company. Plan B’s body of work includes “Minari,” “If Beal Street Could Talk,” “12 Years a Slave,” “The Big Short” and “Selma.”

“An Enemy of the People” is being produced by Seaview, Patrick Catullo and Plan B.
