“What the Constitution Means to Me” will launch a national tour in 2020.
The play, written by Heidi Schreck about her personal experience and staring Schreck on Broadway, will star a new performer in the leading role for the tour. Casting is already underway for the lead, and Schreck is working with director Oliver Butler to tailor parts of the role to this person.
“I’ve been deeply moved by the stories audience members have shared with me in reaction to the play, so it’s an honor to have the opportunity to share the piece with audiences nationwide,” Schreck said. “I’m especially excited to work with Oliver to invite a new performer into the leading role, which open up its perspective further and allow it to remain a vital, living piece of theater.”
The tour will begin at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles and play 40 weeks across 22 cities including Charlotte, Hartford, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
Diana DiMenna, Aaron Glick, Matt Ross and Level Forward and Eva Price will produce the tour.
The play opened on Broadway on March 31 at the Helen Hayes Theater.
