What do those ticketing terms mean?

Ticket analyst Robert E. Schneider offers definitions for four key words.

You’re sitting at the table at your first advertising meeting. At some point, someone like me will give an update on “the numbers” — the ticket sales report, the lifeblood of any production.

I begin to talk through the data and people nod their heads and ask questions, but you’re wondering, “What is he talking about? I thought a wrap was a type of sandwich! And what’s an Arr-o-eye? ATP? Isn’t that some kind of recreational vehicle? What language is being spoken here and how do I learn it?” Here’s the first of three parts — a preliminary guide to some of the most important terms you’ll hear in reference to ticket sales.

The big four: wrap, advance, gross/net and ATP.
