“Water for Elephants,” the circus-infused musical that received seven 2024 Tony Award nominations, will receive a national tour, set to begin in fall 2025. The tour will launch in Baltimore, Maryland, in the Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center.

Featuring a score by PigPen Theatre Co. and a Tony-nominated book by Rick Elice, “Water for Elephants” is an adaptation of Sara Gruen’s 2006 novel of the same name. The musical follows soon-to-be-veterinarian Jacob Jankowski who, following a tragic incident, finds comfort and a new family among both humans and animals of a Depression-era traveling circus.

Tony nominee Jessica Stone directs the musical, which began Broadway previews on Feb. 24 and opened on March 21 at the Imperial Theatre, where it continues to play. Joining Stone on the musical’s creative team are Tony-nominated co-choreographers Shana Carroll and Jesse Robb.

Tour casting and a full schedule of cities and venues are still to be announced.
