The Tony Administration has announced final eligibility determinations for the 2023-2024 season. The committee discussed the eligibility of 12 shows: “The Wiz,” “Suffs,” “Stereophonic,” “Hell’s Kitchen,” “Cabaret,” “The Heart of Rock and Roll,” “Patriots,” “Mary Jane,” “Uncle Vanya,” “Illinoise,” “Mother Play” and “The Great Gatsby.” Productions had to open by April 25 to be eligible.
The committee meets several times a year to confirm if a Broadway production has completed its requirements to be eligible for Tony Awards, as outlined in the Tonys’ rules and regulations. The committee also determines in which of the 26 competitive Tony categories each element of a production will be eligible.
Determinations are announced if they are different from what is printed on the title page of a show’s opening night program. Unless indicated, performers whose names are billed above the show’s title are eligible in leading actor/actress categories; performers listed below the show’s title will be considered in featured actor/actress categories.
The committee made the following determinations:
Nichelle Lewis will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical category for her performance as Dorothy in “The Wiz.”
Scenic designer Hannah Beachler and video designer Daniel Brodie will be considered jointly eligible in the Best Scenic Design of a Musical category for their work on “The Wiz.”
Joseph Joubert will be considered eligible in the Best Orchestrations category for his work on “The Wiz.”
Shaina Taub will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical category for her performance as Alice Paul in “Suffs.”
Will Butler and Justin Craig will be considered jointly eligible in the Best Orchestrations category for their work on “Stereophonic.”
Maleah Joi Moon will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical category for her performance as Ali in “Hell’s Kitchen.”
Scenic designer Robert Brill and projection designer Peter Nigrini will be considered jointly eligible in the Best Scenic Design of a Musical category for their work on “Hell’s Kitchen.”
Corey Cott and McKenzie Kurtz will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical categories for their performances as Bobby and Cassandra, respectively, in “The Heart of Rock and Roll.”
Will Keen will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play category for his performance as Vladimir Putin in “Patriots.”
Scenic designer Miriam Buether and video designer Ash J. Woodward will be considered jointly eligible in the Best Scenic Design of a Play category for their work on “Patriots.”
Rachel McAdams will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play category for her performance as Mary Jane in “Mary Jane.”
Steve Carell and William Jackson Harper will each be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for their performances as Vanya and Astrov, respectively, in “Uncle Vanya.”
Jessica Lange will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play category for her performance as Phyllis in “Mother Play.”
Jeremy Jordan and Eva Noblezada will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical categories for their performances as Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan, respectively, in “The Great Gatsby.”
All other eligibility will be consistent with the opening night credits.
The committee previously announced eligibility rulings in November 2023 and in April.
As previously announced, the 77th annual Tony Awards will take place on June 16 at David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Ariana DeBose will host the ceremony. Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Renée Elise Goldsberry will announce the nominations on April 30.
The Tony Awards are presented by the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.
