A musical adaptation of the 1991 film “Thelma and Louise” featuring Amanda Seyfried is in development. Evan Rachel Wood is also reportedly attached to the project.
During the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, presenters revealed that Seyfried — who won for Best Actress – Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture — was absent from the ceremony because she was “deep in the process of creating a new musical.” It was later announced that a work session was being held in New York.
The film version of “Thelma and Louise” featured Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon in the title roles as two friends running from the law. The film’s Academy Award-winning screenwriter, Callie Khouri is writing the musical’s book with playwright Haley Feiffer. Singer-songwriter Neko Case is working on the score. Trip Cullman directed the workshop. Scott Delman is the producer.
Neither Seyfried nor Wood has previously appeared on Broadway. However, both have been involved in musical films. Seyfried’s credits include “Les Miserables,” “Mamma Mia!” and “Mamma Mia 2,” while Wood appeared in “Across the Universe” and sang in “Frozen 2.”
