Complete casting has been announced for the Broadway bow of Jez Butterworth’s “The Hills of California.” Following a spring 2024 mounting in London’s West End, the previously announced Sam Mendes-helmed play will begin previews on Sept. 11 and open on Sept. 29 at the Broadhurst Theatre. The production is scheduled to play a limited engagement through Dec. 8.

The newly announced cast includes Bryan Dick as Jack Larkin/Dennis, Richard Short as Bill/Mr. Halliwell, David Wilson Barnes as Luther St. John, Richard Lumsden as Joe Fogg/Mr. Potts, Ta’Rea Campbell as Biddy/Penny, Sawyer Barth as Tony, Ellyn Heald as Mrs. Smith, Cameron Scoggins as Dr. Rose and Max Roll as Mr. Smith. Rounding out the company will be understudies Erin Rose Doyle, Sadie Veach, Liz Pearce, Jessica Baglow, Liam Bixby and Q. Smith.

They will appear alongside the previously announced Laura Donnelly as Joan/Veronica, Leanne Best as Gloria, Ophelia Lovibond as Ruby, Helena Wilson as Jill, Nancy Allsop as Young Gloria, Sophia Ally as Young Ruby, Lara McDonnell as Young Joan and Nicola Turner as Young Jill, all of whom are reprising their performances from the West End mounting. Casting is by Jim Carnahan and JV Mercanti.

“The Hills of California” chronicles four former singing-and-dancing sisters who descend upon their coastal England home to care for their dying mother. The siblings reflect on how a shot at fame in their youth changed the trajectory of their lives.

The play’s creative and production teams have also been finalized. “The Hills of California” will feature wig, hair and makeup design by Campbell Young Associates. Joan Sergay and Sara Brians will serve as associate director and associate choreographer, respectively. The production team will include production stage manager Charles M. Turner III, as well as stage manager Ashley-Rose Galligan. Kate Wilson will serve as dialect coach.

“The Hills of California” is being produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, No Guarantees Productions, Neal Street, Brian Spector and Sand & Snow Entertainment, with Stephanie P. McClelland.
