The pre-Broadway run of “The Devil Wears Prada” musical has pushed back by one year.
The musical, which is set to make its world premiere in Chicago, will now start previews in July 2022, compared to the previously scheduled start date of July 2021. Broadway in Chicago said it was making the change in response to the pandemic and that it plans to review the timeline for all of its planned productions.
The musical will play Chicago’s James M. Nederlander Theatre.
“The Devil Wears Prada” is set to be directed by Anna D. Shapiro, with music by Sir Elton John, lyrics by Shaina Taub and a book by Paul Rudnick. The musical previously announced that Beth Leavel would play Miranda Priestly, with Taylor Iman Jones playing her character’s assistant, Andy Sachs.
This is the second time the musical has been rescheduled. It was originally slated to premiere in Chicago in the summer of 2020, but was pushed back a year to allow the creative team more time to work on the show, producer Kevin McCollum said at the time. At that time, the musical planned to play the CIBC Theatre in Chicago.
The musical is produced by McCollum, producer of “Six” and “Mrs. Doubtfire,” and Rocket Entertainment. It is presented by special arrangement with Buena Vista Theatrical.
The production had previously announced plans for a Broadway run following the Chicago premiere.
