“Swept Away” has found its Broadway home. The previously announced new musical, directed by Michael Mayer, will play the Longacre Theatre, with previews scheduled to begin on Oct. 29 and an opening night set for Nov. 19. The Longacre was recently vacated by the musical “Lempicka.”
Featuring a book by John Logan and a score of previously composed and new songs by the Avett Brothers, “Swept Away” follows the crew of a whaling ship doing all they can to survive a shipwreck. The show is inspired by the real-life 1884 shipwreck of a British yacht known as the Mignonette; a 2004 album by the Avett Brothers titled “Mignonette” was also inspired by the wreck.
Casting for the musical, by Jim Carnahan, Jillian Cimini and Alexandre Bleau, will be announced.
“Swept Away” is being produced by Matthew Masten, Sean Hudock and Madison Wells Live. Wagner Johnson Productions will serve as executive producer.
