The 2024 Broadway revival of “Once Upon a Mattress” will receive a cast recording. The production opened at the Hudson Theatre on Aug. 12, 2024, and finished its limited engagement on Nov. 30. The album is slated for release on March 28, 2025, both digitally and physically, under the banner of Center Stage Records and Shout! Broadway. The CD is currently available for pre-order.
Directed by Lear deBessonet, the musical is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea.” “Once Upon a Mattress” features music by Mary Rodgers and lyrics by Marshall Barer. The book is by Jay Thompson, Barer and Dean Fuller and was adapted for this revival by Amy Sherman-Palladino. The album will also feature Bruce Coughlin’s orchestrations.
The recording will include the cast of the Broadway run, led by Sutton Foster as Princess Winnifred and Michael Urie as Prince Dauntless, and featuring Brooks Ashmanskas as the Wizard, Daniel Breaker as the Jester, Will Chase as Sir Harry, Nikki Renée Daniels as Lady Larken, Ana Gasteyer as Queen Aggravain, and David Patrick Kelly as King Sextimus the Silent.
The ensemble will include Daniel Beeman, Wendi Bergamini, Taylor Marie Daniel, Cicily Daniels, Ben Davis, Sheldon Henry, Oyoyo Joi, Amanda LaMotte, Sarah Michele Lindsey, Michael Olaribigbe, Adam Roberts, Jeffrey Schecter, Darius Wright and Richard Riaz Yoder.
The album will be produced by Sherman-Palladino, Tony Award winner and Grammy Award nominee Adam Guettel, Grammy winner Lawrence Manchester and Jenny Gersten. Music supervision will be provided by Grammy winner Mary-Mitchell Campbell, with music direction by Annbritt deChateau, music coordination by Kimberlee Wertz and music contracting by Jill Del’Abate. The record will be executive produced by Van Dean for Center Stage Records and Douglas Denoff for Shout! Broadway.
