Sutton Foster won the Distinguished Performance Award for her role as Marian Paroo in “The Music Man” and “Company” received two awards at this year’s Drama League Awards. “The Lehman Trilogy” and “A Strange Loop” also won top prizes.
The 88th Annual Drama League Awards were presented Friday at the Ziegfeld Ballroom. The awards celebrate the shows and individual performances of the Broadway and Off-Broadway seasons.
After two years of virtual events due to the pandemic, the award ceremony returned to an in-person format.
It was previously announced that Hugh Jackman would be honored at the ceremony with the league’s Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theater Award. Other honorees include Billy Crystal, Lileana Blain-Cruz and Willette Murphy Klausner.
Winners from the 2019-2020 season included “Moulin Rouge!” and Danny Burstein for his performance in that show. Five unique awards were given in 2021 honoring theatrical contributions and productions mounted during the industry shutdown.
