Producers of “Suffs” have set a closing date. The musical, which features a Tony Award-winning book and score by Shaina Taub, will play its final performance on Jan. 5, 2025. Following previews that began on March 26, “Suffs” opened on April 18 at the Music Box Theatre. By the time of closing, “Suffs” will have played 24 previews and 301 performances.
The musical’s producers have also announced a national tour, set to launch at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre in September 2025. Additional cities will be announced in the coming months.
Featuring Tony-nominated direction by Leigh Silverman, “Suffs” focuses on the triumphs and failures of the women’s suffrage movement. The musical received six 2024 Tony nominations, including a nod for Best Musical. The musical’s two Tony wins were for Best Book and Best Original Score.

We are thrilled to have played a part in giving new life to the suffragists’ fight for the vote through Shaina Taub’s award-winning book and score and look forward to sharing it with audiences across the country.”
The musical’s current cast includes Taub as Alice Paul, Kim Blanck as Ruza Wenclawska, Ally Bonino as Lucy Burns, Tsilala Brock as Dudley Malone, Jenn Colella as Carrie Chapman Catt, Hannah Cruz as Inez Milholland, Nadia Dandashi as Doris Stevens, Laila Erica Drew as Phyllis Terrell/Robin, Jaygee Macapugay as Mollie Hay, Anastacia McCleskey as Mary Church Terrell, Grace McLean as President Woodrow Wilson, Emily Skinner as Alva Belmont/Phoebe Burn and Nikki M. James in a Tony-nominated turn as Ida B. Wells. Hawley Gould is the alternate for the role of Alice Paul.
Rounding out the company are ensemblists Jenna Bainbridge, Dana Costello, Monica Tulia Ramirez and Ada Westfall, in addition to swings Christine Heesun Hwang, Chessa Metz, Kirsten Scott, Housso Semon and D’Kaylah Unique Whitley. Casting is by Heidi Griffiths and Kate Murray.
“Suffs” features choreography by Mayte Natalio, music direction by Andrea Grody, orchestrations by Michael Starobin and arrangements by Taub, Grody and Starobin. The production has scenic design by Riccardo Hernández, Tony-nominated costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Lap Chi Chu and sound design by Jason Crystal.
During its run, “Suffs” partnered with When We All Vote, encouraging voter registration and increasing voter turnout ahead of the 2024 presidential election. Additionally, the production celebrated the 104th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment with a weeklong series of events.
An original cast album of the musical’s score was released in June.
“Suffs” is produced by Jill Furman and Rachel Sussman. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Malala Yousafzai serve as co-producers.
