Stefanie Frey will rejoin the staff of Actors’ Equity in the role of mobilization director.
Frey previously worked as a national organizer at Equity, working on projects such as the 2019 strike for profit participation in Broadway show development and the 2016 Off-Broadway negotiations, which included the #FairWageOnstage group. She will start as mobilization director, a new role within Equity, on Dec. 1.
Frey first became an Equity member in 2011 and later joined the staff as a contract associate, before becoming a business rep and national organizer. She left the organization in 2019 to serve as senior mobilizer at the NewsGuild of NY.
Frey takes on her new role as the union begins negotiating a new agreement for national tours.
“As theatre reopens around the country, it’s important to remember that a labor of love is still labor and must be fairly compensated with equitable and safe working conditions,” Frey said in the press release. “I look forward to the continued partnership with our employers who take our labor seriously, and when necessary, I am ready to stand side by side with Equity members to raise our voices and demand the changes we need to see in our workplaces.”
