Sophia Anne Caruso, who originated the role of Lydia in “Beetlejuice,” is no longer in the Broadway musical.
The lead played her final performance at the evening show on Feb. 19, a spokesperson for the production said Friday.
“She decided to exercise her contractual out to pursue television work,” the spokesperson said.
Her understudy, Presley Ryan, is playing the role of Lydia through this weekend. A permanent replacement will be confirmed next week, the spokesperson said.
Caruso initially broke the news herself in an Instagram Story Friday.
“If you planned tickets to see me, please note that Wednesday eve (19th) was my last performance of Beetlejuice. I will not be doing any more future performances for it,” Caruso wrote in the since-deleted Instagram Story.
Caruso has been with the production since its fall 2018 run at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. and through the Broadway run, which began at the Winter Garden Theatre in March 2019.
In December, the producers of “Beetlejuice” said they would be closing the production at the Winter Garden Theatre in June, but that they were in search of another theater.
Caruso previously appeared on Broadway in the 2016 play “Blackbird” and Off-Broadway in the 2015 musical “Lazarus.”
