Sony Music Masterworks has acquired a 50% ownership position in Seaview Productions, the theater production company led by producer Greg Nobile.

Masterworks, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, will work with Seaview Productions to develop new theatrical projects and will help the company launch into film, television and podcasting. Nobile, will stay on as chief executive and will continue to work with his co-founder Jana Shea and Managing Director Carly Callahan.

Seaview recently produced “Slave Play” and “Sea Wall/A Life” on Broadway. The production company is also backing the new musical “Lempicka” and a new play from Jeremy O. Harris, playwright of “Slave Play.”

The team will work with Masterworks President Mark Cavell and Scott Farthing, senior vice president of Masterworks Broadway.

“Masterworks’ shared commitment to artist-driven creative development and their impressive track record in the industry reaffirms our unbridled enthusiasm for this partnership, which will fuel Seaview’s slate of creative projects across all mediums and provide extraordinary opportunities for our beloved artists and creators,” Nobile said in a press release. “We are excited for all that is ahead, on Broadway and beyond.”

Masterworks is a co-producer on “Sing Street” and previously co-produced the “SpongeBob SquarePants” musical on Broadway. The company recently made investment deals with Terrapin Station Entertainment, an artist management and production company and booking agency RoadCo Entertainment.
