The Tony Awards has announced that Skylar Astin will serve as host of the “Broadway Fanfare” simulcast. The previously announced event, which is a partnership with American Express, will be held on June 16 in Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
“As someone who has a special place in their heart for theater and the arts — with my roots as a Broadway performer — the opportunity to host the American Express simulcast is truly meaningful,” said Skylar Astin. “Theater has always been about community, and this event will bring people closer to the incredible talent and magic of Broadway for an unforgettable experience.”
Astin made his Broadway debut as Georg in the original 2006 Broadway production of “Spring Awakening.” In 2022, he replaced as Seymour in the Off-Broadway production of “Little Shop of Horrors.” On television, he is known for playing the title role in the CBS series “So Help Me Todd,” as well as Max in the NBC musical drama series “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.” He played Jesse in the “Pitch Perfect” film franchise.
“We are delighted to welcome Skylar Astin as host of the American Express simulcast event at the 77th annual Tony Awards,” said Heather Hitchens, president and CEO of the American Theatre Wing, and Jason Laks, interim president of the Broadway League, in a joint statement. “We are certain he will cultivate an evening of excitement amongst theater fans on Broadway’s biggest night.”
“Broadway Fanfare” is free and open to the public. Besides the simulcast of the awards ceremony, the event will offer a “See Your Name in Lights” photo opportunity, a Broadway trivia contest and special pre-show performances by to-be-announced Broadway actors. Refreshments will be available for purchase. All simulcast attendees will be given a QR code to access the 2024 Tony Awards program digitally.
As previously announced, the 77th annual Tony Awards will take place at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater on June 16 beginning at 8:00 p.m. Ariana DeBose will host.
The Tony Awards are presented by the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.
