“Six” will celebrate its long-delayed opening night his fall.
The musical will resume performances on Broadway starting Sept. 17, with an opening night planned for Oct. 3, 2021. “Six” was set to open March 12, 2020, but Broadway was ordered to close hours before the opening night performance.
“Six” will return to the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. In conjunction with the ticketing announcement, the Nederlander Organization, which owns the theater, published safety guidelines for patrons, including updated air filtration systems “to accommodate CDC guidelines and hospital standards” and digital tickets to the show, as well as touchless payments at the bar and merchandise stands.
While noting that guidelines may shift, the policy requires theatergoers to wear masks and to use hand sanitizer open entering the theater. Everyone else in the theater must wear face masks or equivalent face coverings unless prohibited by their job, meaning cast members on stage and musicians playing wind instruments.
High-touch surfaces backstage and in the house will be cleaned after each performance. The theater will also undergo daily cleaning.
The “Six” announcement follows Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s declaration Wednesday that Broadway can reopen at 100% capacity starting Sept. 14. Cuomo said protocols such as requiring vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to attend performances have not yet been decided, but may be a possibility.
Hours after Cuomo’s announcement, “The Phantom of Opera” announced a return date. Additional productions are expected to announce next week. “Diana” already put tickets on sale for a run starting Dec. 1 and several other productions, such as “Thoughts of the Colored Man” have set plans for fall runs, but have not yet announced dates.
Both “The Phantom of the Opera,” in the Shubert Organization-owned Majestic Theatre, as well as “Six,” and other productions in Nederlander houses, have set a ticketing policy that allows ticket returns or exchanges up until two hours before the performance begins.
“Six” is co-directed by Lucy Moss and Jamie Armitage and choreographed by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille. The show played 31 previews before the shutdown.
Pre-sale tickets for “Six” went live Thursday and a general on-sale date is planned for Monday.
