“Sing Street” will stage a run at the Huntington in Boston this August, as the musical looks to return to Broadway.
The new musical, which is based on the 2016 film, was scheduled to play Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre in spring 2020, but was unable to begin performances due to the theatrical shutdown. “Sing Street” will now play a run at the Huntington from Aug. 26 to Oct. 2, as a “next step for the show’s journey back to Broadway,” according to the production.
The musical had previously announced plans for a Broadway return between winter 2021 and winter 2022.
“Sing Street” features a book by Enda Walsh and music and lyrics by Gary Clark and John Carney, who wrote and directed the film. Rebecca Taichman directs and Sonya Tayeh is the choreographer.
The musical premiered at New York Theatre Workshop in 2019. Casting for the Boston run has not yet been announced.
“Sing Street” is produced by Barbara Broccoli, Brian Carmody, Patrick Milling Smith, Michael Wilson, Orin Wolf and Frederick Zollo, in association with Sing Street LLC.
The production features scenic and costume design by Bob Crowley, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Peter Hylenski, video design by Luke Halls, music supervision by Martin Lowe and Peter Gordeno, orchestrations by Gary Clark and Martin Lowe.
