Following a sold-out run in London’s West End, Sarah Snook, known for her role as Shiv Roy in HBO’s acclaimed series “Succession,” will make her Broadway debut in the stage adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray.” The production, adapted and directed by Kip Williams, will open at a Shubert theater in March 2024 for a strictly limited engagement.

Snook will reprise her celebrated role, portraying all 26 characters in this adaptation that uniquely combines video and live theater. This production originated with the Sydney Theatre Company, where Williams serves as artistic director.

“The Picture of Dorian Gray” explores themes of beauty, excess and societal preoccupation with youth as it tells the story of its titular character: Artist Basil Hallward paints the beautiful Dorian, who becomes enthralled in a hedonistic lifestyle and obsession with beauty. He sells his soul to ensure that his portrait, rather than he, will age. But that cost is that the portrait records every one of Dorian’s since.

Snook earned an Olivier Award for Best Actress for her performance in the subsequent London mounting. The West End production also received accolades for Best Costume Design.

In addition to an Olivier, Snook won an Emmy Award, two Golden Globe Awards and a Critics’ Choice Award for her turn as Shiv over the course of four seasons of “Succession.” Snook stablished herself onstage through performances in “King Lear” with the State Theatre Company of South Australia, productions for the Griffin Theatre Company, “The Master Builder” at London’s iconic Old Vic Theatre and, most recently, in “Saint Joan” for the Sydney Theatre Company, for which she won Best Female Actor in a Play at Australia’s 2019 Helpmann Awards.

Williams has directed over 20 productions for Sydney Theatre Company since his appointment to artistic director in 2016. His acclaimed adaptations, including “Suddenly Last Summer” and “The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui,” have earned him multiple awards and recognition for visual storytelling and formal innovation. Williams is particularly noted for his “cine-theatre” trilogy, which includes “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” blending cinematic techniques with live performance.

Broadway’s “The Picture of Dorian Gray” will feature set and costume design is by Marg Horwell, lighting design by Nick Schlieper, composition and sound design by Clemence Williams and video design by David Bergman. Eryn Jean Norvill will serve as dramaturg and creative associate.

“The Picture of Dorian Gray” is being produced on Broadway by Michael Cassel, Adam Kenwright, Len Blavatnik and Danny Cohen, Daryl Roth, Amanda Lipitz and Henry Tisch. Foresight Theatrical will be the general manager with Aaron Lustbader as executive producer. Michael Casssel Group is the worldwide executive producer.
