Sara Chase is back at the Broadway Theatre. The veteran actor, who originated the role of Myrtle Wilson in “The Great Gatsby,” stepped back into the role on Oct. 14 after a previously announced medical leave. Chilina Kennedy, who took on the role of Myrtle in the interim, played her final performance in “The Great Gatsby” on Oct. 5.

During her absence, Chase underwent several rounds of chemotherapy after having received a tubal cancer diagnosis earlier this year. In June, Chase shared on Instagram that she would briefly be stepping away from “The Great Gatsby” so she could finish out treatment. Chase’s post at the time read, “This was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make. I gave it my all for as long as I could, and now it’s time to focus on recovery.”

Chase rejoins a cast that includes fellow original principal cast members Jeremy Jordan as Jay Gatsby, Eva Noblezada as Daisy Buchanan, Eric Anderson as Meyer Wolfsheim, Samantha Pauly as Jordan Baker, Noah J. Ricketts as Nick Carraway, Paul Whitty as George Wilson and John Zdrojeski as Tom Buchanan.

Based on the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, “The Great Gatsby” features a book by Kait Kerrigan, music by Jason Howland and lyrics by Nathan Tysen. The production features direction by Marc Bruni, choreography by Dominique Kelley and musical direction by Daniel Edmonds.

“The Great Gatsby” began previews on March 29 and opened on April 25. The production took home the 2024 Tony Award for Linda Cho’s costume design.

“The Great Gatsby” is produced by Chunsoo Shinn.
