Ryan Murphy will bring a film adaptation of “The Boys in the Band” to Netflix, the television producer announced Wednesday.
The film will be an adaptation of the Mart Crowley play, of which Murphy was a producer, which appeared on Broadway in the summer of 2018. It will feature the entire Broadway cast and will be directed by Joe Mantello, the director of the revival.
This is the second Broadway show Murphy will create a Netflix film adaptation for, after Murphy announced an adaptation of “The Prom” last week.
“The Broadway cast of Boys was so important to me, and as equally groundbreaking as Mart Crowley’s seminal work,” Murphy wrote in an Instagram post in which he announced the news.
“The Boys in the Band” will film this summer for release in 2020. It will be produced by produced by Murphy, David Stone and Ned Martel.
The cast includes Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Andrew Rannells, Matt Bomer, Charlie Carver, Robin de Jesus, Tuc Watkins, Michael Benjamin Washington and Brian Hutchison.
