The Broadway community is rallying behind actor Ruthie Ann Blumenstein, whose stage name is Ruthie Ann Miles, after a car struck and injured Blumenstein and killed her four-year-old daughter.
According to NBC 4 New York, a driver ran through a red light in Park Slope midday Monday and struck Blumenstein and her daughter, as well as friend Lauren Lew and her one-year-old son. The one-year-old was also killed and Lew was injured.
NBC initially reported that Blumenstein, who was said to be pregnant, was in “critical condition” Monday, but a later report from the New York Daily News said she was in stable condition as of Tuesday morning. Lew is also reported to be in stable condition.
An update Tuesday afternoon on a GoFundMe page for Blumenstein provided a further update on her condition: “Ruthie is no longer in critical condition, and is on the road to physical recovery. Also, thankfully, her unborn child is unharmed.”
A 46-year-old man was also reportedly injured in the crash. The driver told police she had medical issues, which NBC reported is still being investigated.
As of late Tuesday, a GoFundMe campaign for Blumenstein had raised more than $250,000. A campaign has also been set up for Lew and has raised more than $107,000.
Members of the Broadway community have been sharing the campaigns on social media, while expressing their condolences for the families.
