Broadway’s “Moulin Rouge!” will welcome Robert Petkoff to the cast. Petkoff will join the company at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on Nov. 22, playing the role of Harold Zidler through Jan. 5, 2025. Petkoff will take over for Austin Durant, who is currently on a leave of absence. Company understudies Patrick Clanton and Frank Viveros play the role through Nov. 21; a return date for Durant will be announced.
Petkoff joined the national tour of “Moulin Rouge!” in the role of Zidler in September of 2023. His Broadway résumé includes playing Hubert Humphrey in 2014’s “All the Way,” Tateh in the 2009 revival of ‘Ragtime,” Perchick in the 2004 mounting of “Fiddler on the Roof” and replacing as Lord Evelyn Oakleigh in 2011’s “Anything Goes” Sir Robin in 2005’s “Spamalot.” Additionally, he played Bruce in the touring company of “Fun Home.”
Petkoff will join a company led by Solea Pfeiffer as Satine, John Cardoza as Christian, André Ward as Toulouse-Lautrec, David Harris as the Duke of Monroth, Pepe Muñoz as Santiago and Sophie Carmen-Jones as Nini. Casting is by Jim Carnahan and Stephen Kopel.
Set in Belle Époque Paris, the musical follows Christian, a young writer newly arrived in France, and his romance with Satine, the star attraction of the infamous Moulin Rouge nightclub. Featuring Tony Award-winning direction by Alex Timbers and Tony-winning choreography by Sonya Tayeh, “Moulin Rouge!” opened on July 25, 2019, and went on to win 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The production recouped in 2022.
