Broadway’s proudest moments of the past couple of decades have rarely – er, make that never – included any of the long parade of jukebox musicals that flooded the zone. (Perhaps it’s time to unplug that jukebox metaphor, enter the 21st century, and call them Pandora or Spotify musicals.) With a couple of exceptions — “Mamma Mia!,” maybe the mother of them all, certainly looks better in hindsight — these endorphin-delivery systems for Baby Boomers have been serviceable at best, and wince-worthy at worst.
