The Main Stem mounting of “Real Women Have Curves” has found its home. The previously announced musical will begin previews on April 1, 2025 and open on April 27 at the James Earl Jones Theatre. Sergio Trujillo, who directed and choreographed the musical’s 2023 world premiere at American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, will repeat his duties for Broadway.

“In 1982, Fran and I opened two Tony-nominated revivals on Broadway, one being ‘Othello’ starring James Earl Jones, which would go on to win our first Tony Award,” said producer Barry Weissler in a statement. “Returning to this theater — which now carries Jones’ name — is a beautiful full-circle moment for our careers over 40 years later, and we can’t wait to bring the story of ‘Real Women Have Curves’ to life within those walls alongside our esteemed partner Jack Noseworthy.”

The Jones is the current home of Delia Ephron’s autobiographical play “Left on Tenth,” which is scheduled to complete its limited engagement on Feb. 2, 2025.

Featuring a score by Joy Huerta and Benjamin Velez, a book by Lisa Loomer with Nell Benjamin, “Real Women Have Curves” is based on a play by Josefina López and the television movie of the same name. Set in 1987, the musical follows Ana, who, following high school graduation, is expected to remain in her hometown of Los Angeles and work in a garment factory alongside her mother to help support their family. Ana, however, dreams of starting anew in New York City.

Casting and additional members of the creative team will be announced.

“Real Women Have Curves” is being produced by Barry Weissler, Fran Weissler and Noseworthy, in association with Peggy Koenig, Stan Ponte, the John Gore Organization (the parent company of Broadway News), Ira Pittelman, Stacie and Steven Weisbrot, Michael Valdes, Michael P. Kruke, the Nederlander Organization, Ramesh Narasimhan, Emerald Drive, HGH Productions, the Independent Presenters Network, Jared King, Peter May, James R. Schnepper, Jayne Baron Sherman, Alicia Menendez and the Shubert Organization.
