Tom Smedes Productions (TSP) has announced a company restructure that includes the promotion of Heather Shields to partner, Broadway News has learned exclusively.
Shields, a longtime producer and general manager at the firm, will now have an equal say in what shows TSP produces. She'll also help determine the productions that the company will manage and executive produce.
In addition to her work with TSP, Shields is a co-founder of the Business of Broadway, which offers courses to educate anyone who enrolls about the functions of the industry's business side. The goal is to promote better collaboration and communication between artists and producers.
Along with the restructure of TSP comes the announcement that Clearview Theatricals, a sister company that focuses on general management and executive producing, will now include a specialization in immersive and experiential productions.
"This announcement is the codification of what our work partnership has looked like for many years," Tom Smedes said in a statement. "I am thrilled to have found a partner who has the same artistic vision and believes in the power of the theatrical experience to make a difference in the world and people's lives."
"In terms of granting opportunity, goodwill and generosity, Tom Smedes is one of the brightest lights on Broadway," Shields said in a statement. "I am honored by the faith he has placed in our partnership and look forward to continuing our mission of producing the kind of work that touches the heart and moves the soul."
Founded in 2006, TSP recently served as producers on such Broadway productions as the 2019 revival of "A Christmas Carol," "The Prom," "Bandstand" and "Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812." Current and upcoming projects include "Peter Pan Goes Wrong" and the Broadway-aimed "Bruce."
