New musical “KPOP” will come to Broadway this October, starring Korean pop singer Luna.
This is the Broadway debut for Luna, who started her career as a member of the popular South Korean girl group f(x). The musical will play the Circle in the Square Theatre starting Oct. 13. Opening night is scheduled for Nov. 20.
Luna has previously appeared in Korean stage productions including “Mamma Mia!” and “In the Heights.” Complete casting for the musical will be announced at a later date.
“KPOP” comes to Broadway after an Off-Broadway premiere at Ars Nova in 2017. The musical features a book by Jason Kim, music and lyrics by Helen Park and Max Vernon and direction by Teddy Bergman. “KPOP” was conceived by Kim and Woodshed Collective and originally premiered as an immersive experience.
The musical features choreography by Jennifer Weber and scenic design by Gabriel Hainer Evansohn. Costume design is by Clint Ramos and Sophia Choi, lighting design is by Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew and sound design is by Peter Hylenski.
Tim Forbes and Joey Parnes are the lead producers.
