A North American tour of ‘Parade’ will launch in January 2025. The musical, which won the 2023 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, will begin performances at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady, New York. An official tour launch will follow at Hennepin Theatre Trust’s Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Featuring a Tony-winning score by Jason Robert Brown and a Tony-winning book by Alfred Uhry, this production of ‘Parade’ originally played a week-long engagement at New York City Center in 2022 before transferring to the Main Stem. “Parade” opened on March 16, 2023, at Broadway’s Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. The limited run closed on Aug. 6, but not before receiving six Tony nominations. In addition to best revival, the production won for Michael Arden’s direction. The production’s cast album was recently nominated for a 2024 Best Musical Theater Album Grammy Award.
“We are honored that we can bring ‘Parade’ to audiences across North America,” said the tour's producers in a joint statement, “so that they too can experience this once in a lifetime production in this moment in history.”
“We’re honored that Minneapolis has been chosen as the official premiere city to tell this important story of the enduring power of human resilience and redemption,” said Hennepin Theatre Trust president and CEO Todd Duesing in a statement. “It’s a testament to our city’s cultural significance and artistic appreciation where diverse audiences come together to experience the magic of Broadway.”
Co-conceived and originally directed on Broadway by Tony-winner Harold Prince, “Parade” dramatizes the real-life experience of Jewish couple Leo and Lucille Frank as they face discrimination and prejudice amidst a murder trial in 1913 Georgia.
“Parade” is co-choreographed by Lauren Yalango-Grant and Christopher Cree Grant. The tour will feature the Tony-nominated costume and lighting designs of Susan Hilferty and Heather Gilbert, respectively. The design team also includes Tony-nominated scenic designer Dane Laffrey, sound designer Jon Weston, Tony-nominated projection designer Sven Ortel and hair and wig designer Tom Watson. Kimberlee Wertz will serve as music coordinator.
Casting, by Telsey + Co/Craig Burns, and a full tour itinerary will be announced at a later date.
The “Parade” tour is being produced by the same team that led the Broadway production: Seaview and Ambassador Theatre Group.
