Casting has been finalized for the Kenny Leon-helmed production of “Othello.” The previously announced revival will begin previews on Feb. 24, 2025, and open on March 23 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. The Shakespearean drama is scheduled for a limited run through June 8.
Newly named cast members include Neal Bledsoe as the Duke of Venice, Julee Cerda as Bianca, Ezra Knight as Montano, Gene Gillette as Gratiano and Rob Heaps as Lodovico. Also newly announced are ensemble members William Connell, Ty Fanning, Ben Graney, Daniel Reece, Christina Sajous and Greg Wood, as well as swing Abiola Obatolu.
Bledsoe’s career has spanned performance and the written word — having appeared on Broadway in 2009’s “Impressionism” and in the 2017 Los Angeles staging of “The Pride” and having contributed to Variety, Men’s Health and Sports Illustrated. “Othello” will mark Cerda’s second Main Stem credit (and second Leon-directed one at that); she appeared in the 2018 revival of “Children of a Lesser God.”
Knight’s Broadway credits include appearances in “Pretty Woman,” “Mean Girls,” “Festen” and a revival of “Cymbeline.” Gillette’s most recent Broadway credit is “To Kill a Mockingbird.” He previously appeared in national tours of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” and “War Horse.”
“Othello” will mark the Broadway of Heaps, whose extensive television résumé includes Bravo’s “Imposters,” Netflix’s “Partner Track” and ABC’s “Station 19.”
They will appear alongside the previously announced Denzel Washington in the titular role, Jake Gyllenhaal as Iago, Molly Osborne as Desdemona, Andrew Burnap as Cassio, Anthony Michael Lopez as Roderigo, Daniel Pearce as Brabantio and Kimber Elayne Sprawl as Emilia. Casting is by Duncan Stewart and Jarrett Reiche of ARC Casting.
“Othello” chronicles the titular Moorish general and his lieutenant Iago; Iago’s vengeance-fueled manipulation and deceit causes Othello to act out against his wife, Desdemona.
“Othello” is being produced by Brian Anthony Moreland, Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker.
