H.E.R. has signed on as a producer of the upcoming Broadway musical “Here Lies Love,” marking her Broadway producing debut.
Born Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, but known professionally as H.E.R, the five-time Grammy Award-winning music artist is also an Academy Award winner for her song, “Fight For You,” which was featured in the film “Judas and the Black Messiah.” Most recently, she starred as Belle in ABC’s “Beauty and the Beast Live.” H.E.R. will appear as Squeak in the upcoming film adaptation of the musical “The Color Purple.”
“Filipinos are a global people. We come in all colors and build bridges across cultures,” H.E.R. said in a statement. “I am beyond excited to produce my first Broadway musical and forge a unique and meaningful partnership with ‘Here Lies Love.’”
The musical is set to begin performances on June 17 ahead of an official opening night of July 20 at the Broadway Theatre. “Here Lies Love” tells the story of the rise and fall of former Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos, a role that will be played by Arielle Jacobs, and Marcos’ fall to the People Power Revolution.
Directed by Alex Timbers, “Here Lies Love” is being produced on Broadway by Hal Luftig, Patrick Catullo, Diana DiMenna for Plate Spinner Productions, Clint Ramos and Jose Antonio Vargas.
