RWS Global, a producer of theatrical productions, events and multimedia experiences, has acquired the Harmony Helper app. The app, which was created in 2019 by founder Andrew Goren with help from Tony Award nominee Rob McClure, streamlines the musical rehearsal process, offering singers and music directors alike the opportunity to learn music solo.
The way it works is: sheet music is uploaded to the app, which, with a tempo selected, allows a singer to listen to a song (including additional harmonies) and practice their own vocal part, which normally is not easy without the help of a music director. A model of efficiency, Harmony Helper assists actors and music directors in learning music anytime and anyplace so they can arrive at rehearsal best prepared.
“This tool allows vocalists to practice at their own pace so they come to rehearsals more prepared with show-ready vocals,” explained Craig Laurie, RWS Global’s chief creative officer, in a statement. “Harmony Helper will be a game changer for our clients who are looking to elevate and save on their vocal productions.”
“When I was rehearsing for my first professional show at the age of 12, I had trouble singing harmony, it was in that moment the idea for Harmony Helper was born,” said Goren. “I know that the hassles of practicing for a performance can leave singers feeling frustrated and unprepared. Now, through this exciting new venture, Harmony Helper will be accessible to thousands of professional singers hired by RWS Global around the world. It’s great to be a part of a like-minded organization that sees the value in supporting talent throughout their careers!”
The app will continue to function as it had prior to the RWS acquisition.
Harmony Helper is available to download by individuals for free, with a licensing option available to producers. While there are not currently specific plans to partner with any Broadway productions, a representative for RWS Global told Broadway News that Harmony Helper is “looking to expand opportunities in the future and [is] open to partnering with Broadway productions and other large-scale musical productions.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Harmony Helper to the RWS Global family as we continue to deepen and diversify our investments in production and technology and deliver best in class shows around the globe,” added Ryan Stana, chair and CEO of RWS Global.
