A new musical has been announced for the 2024-2025 Broadway season. “Operation Mincemeat” will begin previews on Feb. 15, 2025 and open on March 25 at the John Golden Theatre. Robert Hasti will reprise his directorial duties from the currently running Olivier Award-winning London production, as will choreographer Jenny Arnold. Broadway by Avalon, in association with SpitLip, will produce. “Operation Mincemeat” will be the first musical to play the Golden Theatre since “Avenue Q” concluded its six-year Tony Award-winning run there in 2009.

Featuring a book and score by SpitLip, “Operation Mincemeat” is set in 1943 and follows the real-life World War II British deception operation of the same name. The musical blends elements of farce, thriller and caper to tell the story of a covert operation that turned the tide for the war.

“If we had to name one single unifying influence for ‘Operation Mincemeat,’ it would be the American musical comedy,” said SplitLip members David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson and Zoë Roberts in a joint statement. “‘The Producers,’ ‘Guys and Dolls,’ ‘Wicked,’ ‘Avenue Q,’ ‘The Book Of Mormon’ — we never dreamed we would even get to go see shows like these on Broadway, let alone open our show alongside them. Thank you to our fans, and particularly those in the U.S. for getting ‘Operation Mincemeat’ here. If it gets hounded out of Broadway after one night, it will still be beyond our wildest dreams. Our producers, we’d imagine, would be less pleased.”

“Operation Mincemeat” opened in May 2023 at West End’s Fortune Theatre. The production was nominated for six 2024 Olivier Awards, winning two, including the top honor for Best New Musical. “Operation Mincemeat” was commissioned by New Diorama Theatre and co-commissioned by the Lowry.

Casting and further creative team members for the production will be announced.
