The off-Broadway production of “Oklahoma!,” last seen at St. Ann’s Warehouse, will transfer to the Circle in the Square Theatre on Broadway this spring.
The production, directed by Daniel Fish and produced by Eva Price, will begin previews on March 19, with an opening night scheduled for April 7. This marks the second musical revival this season, after Roundabout’s “Kiss Me, Kate,” also opening this spring.
The production at St. Ann’s ran from Sept. 27 through Nov. 11 of this year, and was characterized as a darker and more intimate telling of the classic story, including positioning the audience on both sides of the action. It premiered at Bard College in the summer of 2015.
“What an incredible moment to be producing on Broadway, in the middle of this wonderfully eclectic season spurred by an audience that is hungry for bold, daring work,” Price said in the press release. “Daniel Fish’s timeless and timely revival of this classic speaks so vividly to the place we as Americans are living in today.”
The musical will play a limited engagement through Sept. 1.
The last revival of “Oklahoma!” opened in 2002, produced by Cameron Mackintosh. This revival comes 75 years after the original production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.
