Nichelle Lewis, Melody A. Betts, Kyle Ramar Freeman, Alan Mingo Jr, Phillip Johnson Richardson and Avery Wilson all performed songs from the Broadway revival of “The Wiz” as part of NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series.

Featuring a score by Charlie Smalls and a book by William F. Brown with additional material by Amber Ruffin, “The Wiz” is an all-Black adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s story of Dorothy’s adventures in Oz. The current revival, which features direction by Schele Williams, arrived on Broadway following a six-month national tour. The production began Broadway previews on March 29 and opened on April 17. “The Wiz” will continue for a limited engagement through Aug. 18, and is set to return to the road in Feb. 2025.
