Norbert Leo Butz and other Broadway stars have been tapped to portray iconic Broadway figures in the upcoming television series “Fosse/Verdon.”
In the eight-episode FX limited series, from executive producers Thomas Kail, Steven Levenson, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Joel Fields, Butz will star as series regular Paddy Chayefsky, alongside Margaret Qualley, of “The Leftovers” as Ann Reinking and previously announced stars Sam Rockwell, as Fosse, and Michelle Williams as Gwen Verdon.
Other Broadway names include Bianca Marroquin, of “Chicago,” as Chita Rivera, Kelli Barrett, of “Gettin’ the Band Back Together,” as Liza Minnelli, “Spongebob’s” Ethan Slater as Joel Grey and Laura Osnes, last seen in “Bandstand” as Shirley MacLaine.
Aya Cash will play Joan Simon, Nate Corddry will play Neil Simon, Susan Misner will play Joan McCracken, Evan Handler will play Hal Prince, Rick Holmes will play Fred Weaver and Paul Reiser will play Cy Feuer.
Production has begun in New York City with an FX premiere set for spring 2019.
Levenson, the “Dear Evan Hansen”book writer will act as showrunner. Actress, dancer and producer Nicole Fosse, daughter of Fosse and Verdon, serves as co-executive producer. Andy Blankenbuehler is a co-producer and serving as a choreographer, as is Susan Misner.
