Nominations for 78th annual Tonys to be revealed in May; nominating committee announced

The eligibility cutoff date has also been set.

The Tony Awards Administration Committee has revealed key dates for the 2025 Tonys, as well as this year’s nominating committee. As previously announced, the 78th Tony Awards will take place on June 8 at Radio City Music Hall.

To be eligible for the 2025 Tonys, productions must open in the time period between April 26, 2024 and April 27, 2025. All other eligibility requirements, as outlined in the Tonys’ rules and regulations, must be met.

Nominations in 26 competitive categories will be announced on May 1.

Also newly announced are the members of the Tony nominating committee. The committee, which comprises 62 individuals from various disciplines in the theater industry, attend every Tony-eligible production and determine, by vote, the nominees for the 2025 Tonys. Committee members serve a three-year term. 

New to this year’s slate of nominators are Tony-winning performer Victoria Clark, Tony-winning sound designer Jessica Paz and Tony-winning producer/Second Stage Theater co-founder Carole Rothman, as well as Tony-nominated performer Kevin Cahoon, Tony-nominated playwright James Ijames and Tony-nominated producer Rod Kaats. Additional new members include director/choreographer/DEI director Brian Harlan Brooks, theater educator Jamie Cacciola-Price, dramaturg/professor Donald P. Gagnon, TDF executive director Deeksha Gaur, casting director Rosalie Joseph, former Washington Post theater critic Peter Marks, performer Georgina Pazcoguin, costume designer Karen Perry, performer/co-founder of BTC T. Oliver Reid, composer/arranger Liam Robinson, lighting designer Mark Stanley, playwright/screenwriter Susan Soon He Stanton, performer Sam Strasfeld and performer/director Alexandria Wailes.

They will join returning committee members Bob Balaban, Danielle Barlow, Sarah Benson, Rick Boynton, Adam Chanler-Berat, Jordan E. Cooper, Carmel Dean, Ty Defoe, Andy Einhorn, Dan Foster, Linda Goodrich, Miranda Haymon, Michael R. Jackson, Christine Toy Johnson, Raja Feather Kelly, Michael Korie, Kathy Landau, Andrea Lauer, Zhailon Levingston, Jose Llana, Jess McLeod, Lisa McNulty, Ira Mont, Jacqueline Diane Moscou, Helen Park, Ralph B. Peña, Nancy Piccione, Jill Rafson Bill Rauch, Susan Sampliner, Dick Scanlan, Florie Seery, Rachel Sheinkin, Devario Simmons, Walt Spangler, Jason Tam, Cori Thomas and Reginald Van Lee.

The Tony Awards are presented by the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.
