A musical adaptation of “August Rush” will have its world premiere at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virg. next year.

The adaptation will be directed by John Doyle, with music and lyrics by Mark Mancina, who scored the Warner Bros. film, and book and lyrics by Glen Berger. The musical will premiere at the Signature Theatre on Feb. 5, 2019 and run for a month before transferring to the Paramount Theatre in Aurora, Illinois from April 24, 2019 to June 2, 2019.

David Metzger is providing orchestrations and additional music.

The musical is based on the original screenplay by Paul Castro and Nick Castle, which centers on a young musical prodigy as he searches for his birth parents, both musicians, in New York.

“The ‘hope’ that the story highlights is powerful. That, more than anything, is what attracted me to the material, and I’m honored to be a part of its journey,” Doyle said.
