Netflix will donate $1 million to the Actors Fund as part of a $100 million fund for entertainment workers.

The donation, announced Friday by Ted Sarandos, chief content officer of Netflix, will see the majority of the fund given to workers on Netflix productions around the world. A portion of the fund, $15 million, is being divided between nonprofit groups, including $1 million to the Actors Fund, supporting affected workers in theater, as well as to the SAG-AFTRA Covid-19 Disaster Fund and the Motion Picture and Television Fund.

“The community has supported Netflix through the good times, and we want to help them through these hard times, especially while governments are still figuring out what economic support they will provide,” Sarandos said in a statement.

This joins other efforts to raise money including a $1 million fundraising campaign by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids and donations from individuals. Broadway unions have also been lobbying Congress to ask for government relief.
