NBC will host behind-the-scenes special for ‘Wicked’ film

The event will include the premiere of a scene from the upcoming movie.

NBC has announced a behind-the-scenes special in anticipation of the upcoming film adaptation of Broadway’s “Wicked.” “Defying Gravity: The Curtain Rises on Wicked” will air on Nov. 19 at 10 p.m. EST.

The hour-long event will feature the film’s stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang and Marissa Bode sharing personal memories and video diaries, as well as behind-the-scenes footage. The special will also include the world premiere of a scene from the “Wicked” film.

Following its NBC premiere, “The Curtain Rises on Wicked” will be available for streaming on Peacock on Nov. 20.

Featuring direction by Jon M. Chu, “Wicked” features a Tony Award-nominated score by Stephen Schwartz and a screenplay by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox adapted from Holzman’s Tony-nominated book for the stage show. “Wicked” tells the backstory of the “Wizard of Oz”’s Wicked Witch of the West and Good Witch of the North. The movie musical is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on Nov. 22.

“Defying Gravity: The Curtain Rises on Wicked” is being produced by Monkey, which is part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group. Rob Bagshaw and Andsy Charles Smith serve as executive producers for Monkey.
